We got our first homework….few basic questions which show what sustainability and leadership mean for us. This is so to say our going in position, we will revise our answers throughout the year and see how they have evolved.
I would like to share some of the questions and respectively my answers with you.
What does sustainability mean to you?
For me sustainability is to live in harmony with myself, with the society and the nature. It is also awareness…awareness about the negative as well as the positive impact of my actions.
What are the main sustainability challenges in your region of the world?
A lot of people don’t live in harmony with themselves and therefore cannot live in harmony with the society and the nature.
Constant pressure to perform. Very high speed of life.
A lot of people are not aware of the positive as well as negative impact of their actions. They don’t see the system as a whole.
What do you feel is needed to overcome them?
Educating the people about the impact of their actions and how important the small steps are.
I believe our society has all the information and tools to lead towards sustainability but many people don’t know about them…so I believe that sharing information, inspiring and educating people on how they can act is important.
Creating awareness among people and companies about the non-financial values.
What does leadership mean to you?
For me a leader lives in harmony with him-/herself.
A leader has a vision and is able to inspire other people for it.
A leader sees the world as a holistic system and is able to think beyond existing structures and behavioural patterns.
A leader knows his/her strengths and can see and foster the strengths other people have.
A leader leads by example but also knows his/her limits and is able to accept mistakes and ask for help when needed.
A leader is a great communicator and has a strongly developed social intelligence.
A leader is able to prioritise and take decisions.
Next week we will discuss our answers and I am really curious to see how the other students in the program perceive those topics.
Will be also interesting to hear what do you think about it.
